Parent Programs

Empowering parents with tools, guidance, and a supportive community

At Hummingbird Pediatric Therapies, we believe supporting parents is just as important as supporting children!

Parenting a child with developmental, emotional, or medical needs can be isolating. We’re here to remind you: you don’t have to do this alone! Whether you’re managing a new diagnosis, struggling with behavior challenges, or navigating big changes in your child’s life, our parent-focused programs provide practical tools and skills, emotional support, and professional guidance from trained therapists.

Our Parent Programs include:

Positive Parenting Program

A 10-week parenting program for parents of young children who want fewer meltdowns and more cooperation—without yelling or punishment! In this program, our counselors and social workers pair psychoeducation with guided reflection and processing through case studies and family-specific examples.

\

Who is this program for?

Parents of toddlers, neurodivergent kids, teens, etc.

\

What problems will it help solve?

Meltdowns, power struggles, anxiety, and burnout

\

What is the outcome?

Calmer home, more connection, and confident parenting

The program includes weekly, 1-hour virtual sessions. Sessions last for 10 weeks, but we can adapt it to a 7-week schedule if that works better for you! Sessions are billed through the parent’s insurance.

Parent Support Through Theraplay®

Theraplay is an engaging, attachment-based therapy that enhances parent-child relationships through interactive play and nurturing activities. Caregiver and child participate in sessions together, which allows the therapist to study the relationship and interactions between the pair.

Through our Theraplay-certified counselors, we provide therapist-led parent coaching and guidance, partnering with you to build your confidence, strengthen your connection with your child, and give you practical tools you can use at home. Learn more about how Theraplay can support your family.

Infant Massage Parent Training

Gentle, nurturing touch is one of the earliest and most powerful ways to connect with your baby. Infant massage helps support bonding, regulation, sleep, and communication, while giving parents practical tools they can use confidently at home!

Hummingbird offers Certified Infant Massage Instruction (CIMI) at our Woodridge Center, led by CIMI certified Occupational Therapists and Speech-Language Pathologists.

This service is designed as a three-part parent training program, so you can confidently use infant massage techniques at home as part of your daily routines to support bonding, regulation, and your baby’s development! Learn more about how infant massage can support you and your little one.

Caregiver and Me Academy Program

Our Caregiver + Me Academy Program is a one-day-a-week program for little ones that aren’t quite ready to separate from their caregiver, giving them a supportive place to practice the skills they need to eventually attend an Academy program independently. The intention of the group is to involve caregivers directly into the children’s play. Therapists would provide information and model how to facilitate play skills, communication and regulation, joint and sustained attention, and so much more! Led by a licensed therapist, our weekly group offers community and guidance around parenting challenges, mental health, and family support. Previous conversations have focused on how to socially and emotionally support children, how to foster a healthy parent-child relationship, discussing different parenting styles, and stress management. The caregiver group meets at our Westmont location every Monday morning from 9-10am.
